In all states a real estate appraisal license is required for both residential and commercial property valuation. To qualify for licensing, the appraiser must complete requisite training, gain the necessary experience and meet testing requirements.

 

A residential license in a given state allows the appraiser to value 1-4 family residential properties. A state’s general license indicates the appraiser is qualified to value any and all types of commercial properties.
